If Ebay doesn't fix this, I'm going to start reaching out to lawyers.
THEY ARE CHARGING US TOO MUCH!
I'm finding the final value fee calculation for my listings INCLUDES THE SHIPPING CHARGES! Instead of charging my customer for the same shipping *I* pay, and then a final value fee for the item itself, they're lumping in EVERYTHING that the customer paid, and THEN charging me the final value fee based on that!
In other words, ebay is getting money off of money they charge me for shipping! I have an item that has sold to four different people now for $100. ONE was selected as pick-up in-person and that fee was roughly $14. Another person bought one and paid for shipping, which was about $65. Plus $5 handling (since the boxes cost $5-ish for live fish). I paid $65 for the shipping to ebay. But I was charged $24 in final value fees! The item was $100 in BOTH transactions! The ONLY difference was the shipping charges! And clearly $24 was not just the final value fee and shipping together, because that would have been closer to $84 had they calculated it correctly. Not $24. And it changes with each person in a different location, because they pay different amounts on shipping. It's an instant-purchase item, so the price is exactly the same for all of them!
So they over-charged me about $10 because they calculated the Final Value Fee percentage on the SHIPPING CHARGES.
And I can't get a live English-primary speaking person for the life of me, who actually understands this explanation. They keep trying to explain that this is a method to stop people from over-charging their buyers for shipping.
Yeah, I get it, not charging the BUYER the final value fee for shipping makes sense since I'm not paying that higher amount for the actual shipping cost and could basically pocket that difference. But then to charge ME for it?!? You're charging me a fee for something else I'm required to buy!
Shipping should be a completely separate charge with NO RELATION TO THE FINAL VALUE FEE! At all! It should not even be considered part of the "total" that the buyer sends me! It should be charged to them, but all fees should be calculated ONLY on the amount of money received that covers the ITEM'S COST BY ITSELF! Then you can charge a final value fee based ONLY on the item, and get your money from me that way! But at this rate, they're almost charging me twice because of a bad calculation!
