I was scammed and need help.
I saw a laptop on eBay and sent an offer to ask about the price, because I was curious why it was so cheap. However, eBay treated it as a completed transaction. After that, I noticed that the seller had no successful transaction feedback at all and had only registered in March 2026, which made me feel that this was more likely a scam. I immediately submitted a cancellation request, but eBay forcibly closed my request. As a result, the seller provided a fake tracking number. My shipping address is in Portland, USA, but the tracking information appears to show that the package was sent from Tel Aviv, Israel, and signed for in Samabat, Israel. Even so, eBay marked the transaction as successfully completed, and I was charged $1,360.
I do not understand whether eBay has any review or verification system. How can a package sent to the wrong address still be marked as a successful delivery? My loss in this case was entirely caused by eBay. First, I submitted a cancellation request, so why did eBay not provide any proper communication or dispute mechanism and instead forcibly close my request? Second, why was a fake tracking number still accepted by eBay as proof that the transaction was completed? Finally, I have contacted eBay multiple times asking for assistance, but their only response has been that I should wait patiently. It has already been one week since this happened, and they are still telling me to wait.
In this case, eBay bears undeniable responsibility for the fraud. In China, a similar situation would be considered consumer fraud, and the platform could be held liable for refunding the payment and paying triple compensation. I would like to know how such cases are handled in the United States and how I can seek compensation. I request that eBay staff and the relevant authorities provide a solution as soon as possible.
