eBay just passes on the address that the buyer enters when paying for the item.  eBay has no way of knowing if the address entered is correct or not.  So the address entered on the shipping label was what the buyer entered.  eBay will not take responsibility for a wrong address as it was the buyers fault for the miastake.

Since eBay charges sellers fees for order processing and shipping consolidation—and promotes eBay Shipping as a managed, streamlined solution—it is reasonable to expect some level of address validation or seller protection when UPS later applies an address-correction fee.

In this case, the seller (me)  has no ability to detect or prevent the issue prior to shipment. The charge was applied after the fact by the carrier, despite the label being generated exactly as eBay provided it.

I am requesting a courtesy credit or reimbursement for this address-correction fee, or at minimum confirmation of how sellers are expected to prevent these charges when using eBay-issued labels.

Please also clarify whether sellers are expected to independently verify buyer addresses outside of eBay’s system—and if so, how that aligns with Seller Protection policies when shipping through eBay.

Rule number one is never use ebay shipping for UPS or FedEx.  Only use your own account or a free PirateShip account for UPS.

Normally only the shipper of record can redirect a shipment, which in the case is ebay, but ebay claims it never does this.  However, if the buyer has their own UPS account they can sometimes redirect, but they pay for it.

What I suspect happened is that UPS initiated the redirect themselves rather than returning tje item, if they had an alternate addresses already in their system.  I have had this happened before, but upon hammering on UPS they always refund the charge.

Your problem now is ebay is in the middle, but I'd still contact UPS to verify what happened.  Otherwise you must do the hammering on ebay to correct this.  Use the media contact for ebay in my post for best results in resolving this.

I contacted the agent who had no understanding on the issue. If I was charged an address correction because ebay gave me a wrong address, and ebay debited my account. ebay should refund  me under seller protection. Here is the response..the girl is contacing UPS on my behalf? That makes no sense.

    Hello Lawrence,

Thank you for contacting us regarding the adjustment cost that UPS  charged you. This is not your fault Sir so I did already send a dispute to the carrier on your behalf since they are the one who charged you. And eBay is relying with the address and information  that the buyer has provided.

I hope this is helpful. Thank you for choosing eBay.

    Thanks,

    Lorena

eBay is not providing you the wrong address.  The buyer provides the address.  eBay just passes it on to you in the payment process.

There is no seller protection for surcharges by the carriers.

You can verify and make sure the address is valid before you ship, particularly if you are using FedEx or UPS that will charge you a surcharge for corrections.
