I want to cancel my purchase
I made a mistake in bidding and won the item, so I requested a cancellation and sent a message to the seller, but it was rejected.
What should I do in this case?
The fee is yet to be paid.
If I close without paying, will I be penalized?
Please let me know as I couldn't figure it out even after searching.

Before bidding on any item, you need to read everything on the listing page, before placing a bid, buying or making offers. That is probably the most important job a buyer has on ebay, besides paying.
If you do not pay for the item, you will receive an unpaid item strike. 1 strike will not affect you but, if you get another in the next twelve months, you will not be able to buy from the majority of ebay sellers, who automatically block members who have received 2 unpaid item strikes in the last 12 months. The strikes time out after 12 months from the date they are received.
When you win an auction or commit to buy, you are entering into a contract to pay for the item. You cannot cancel the contract without the seller's approval, since it takes both sides of the contract to agree to cancel one. eBay does not require sellers to agree to cancel transactions.
