I think my buyer is trying to scam a refund
I'll say up front I am not a pro seller. I've sold several random items over the years, but I don't make a living at it. Never a problem until now.
I sold a car wheel. Three weeks later the buyer popped back up claiming the wheel is damaged and unusable, and wants a refund. In his refund request he attached a picture showing the wheel with no visible damage. I asked him for a picture that shows the damage, and instead of providing that, he claimed a shop told him it was invisibly bent (?) and unbalanceable. I asked for documentation from the shop; no reply. I asked if the shipping box was damaged; no reply. The wheel was fine when it left here, so if there was any damage it would have to have been in shipping, but he is not providing me with any way to determine that or prove it to UPS. I believe he is now just waiting it out until he can ask eBay to step in, confiscate his payment from me, and give it back to him.
Do I have any options here besides waiting to get screwed?

·3 years agoIf you want it returned before refunding, accept the return and provide a shipping label before they can ask Ebay to step in.
If they ask Ebay to step in, they'll get a refund from your account, keep it, Ebay will keep their fees and you'll get a defect.

OP3 years agoI asked him again to help by documenting the alleged damage, either to the item or to the shipping container, and he remains mute. I don't like this, but I decided to send him a return shipping label through eBay. If I'm right and he's playing the odds trying to see if I will just refund him, then the wheel is probably already on his car and he will not be able to send it back, and eBay will eventually close the case in my favor. He has three weeks, so we'll see. Worst case for me is he returns it damaged, but at least I'm preventing him from scamming for gain.

Mentor3 years agoIf the buyer files a return for Item Not as Described, ebay will ask for photos. Once you approve the return, buyer is sent a link to print the return label and must ship the item by a certain date. If he does not, you can go to the case and click Ask ebay to step in, and find in your favor.

OP3 years agoIs there no way I can ask someone from eBay to look at the photo he provided and see that it doesn't show a defect? Is there no way to make him establish the item is actually defective before I shell out almost $30 for return shipping?
What happens to the charge for the return label if he never uses it? What happens if it is damaged during return shipment?
