I sold an item, its not like I'm new to selling things on ebay.
They want me to verify by giving out my ss number. I won't do that. Also I want payment to go right to my PayPal account.

Your profile shows that until the recent sale you have not sold anything in over a year, but considering your question, I have to ask if it has been more than 5 years since your last sale? eBay started their Managed payments back then, and payments directly to your PayPal accounts ended in 2021. Now funds go directly into your registered bank account.
Your SSN is required to comply with federal tax laws IRS regulations, requiring that they send you a 1099 K form for reporting income exceeding certain thresholds, which was $5,000.00 up until 2025. Now it has reverted back to $20,000.00 and more than 200 sales.
Since you have not sold anything up until now in over a year, you will have a 30 day hold placed on the payment you received. Because you offered Free shipping you will have to pay the shipping cost with signature confirmation out of pocket. Had you specified a shipping cost, that amount would have been available to buy shipping label through ebay.

It has been a long time since you sold anything and in order to get paid eBay sends money to your checking account. They phased out PayPal back in 2020. If you want to get paid by eBay here is a help page for that and yes, your SSN is required as is your checking account information. Getting paid for items you've sold | eBay
The item you sold was for over $ 1,200 so even with that your funds will be on hold for up to 30 days: Payments on hold | eBay
If you elect not to get paid through eBay then you need to research your state's Escheatment process to claim the funds once eBay turns them over to your state sometime in the future, time frame unknown.

eBay now requires the money go to a Bank Checking Account not PayPal. It's no longer possible to have payouts go to PayPal.
In addition, you must provide your SSN
If you don't want to do these things, you will need to find another way to sell. Likely in person, as all the ecommerce sites require the same now.
