I shipped, item delivered, then stolen by porch pirate- eBay is holding funds
I sold an item 306489191020 (2 ebike tires and 2 tubes) for $72.50 October 8th, shipped same day, tracking number 9434640109628001339673 USPS Ground Advantage and arrived "in or at sellers mailbox" Oct 14th. On Oct 17th buyer files a, "Item not received" case with eBay and eBay freezes my funds. I filed insurance claim with the post office but they denied it saying "It was delivered". I called the buyer and he indicated that he lives in a large complex with all the mailboxes outside next to the complex. I told him he needs to talk to the post office and apartment complex management. Meanwhile, the case is still open and the funds are still frozen.
I have difficulty understanding how this is my fault and why I should have to refund for an item that was clearly stolen. I also have difficulty understanding how a prudent mail carrier would think laying a large box weighing 15 pounds next to a mailbox was in any way safe delivery precluding them from an insurance claim. I have never been in this position before and it looks like the only option I have is to refund the buyer. I could sure use some advice from other more seasoned sellers that have delt with this.
