Bid a bit ABOVE any round or roundish number you likely come up with as your maximum bid to increase your chances of being on the winning side of what might have been a tie or a loss to someone else who knows this tip. I position my exact bid amount somewhere between the round number I come up with and the next increment at that level that I decide I would not be willing to pay (if I would then I start again from there) closer to the latter if it's a hard choice whether I would pay it or closer to the former if I'm quickly certain I wouldn't go to the higher, and a bit above roundish cents like anything ending in 0 or 5.
