I purchased an item listed as new but it was open box

Question

The seller said he would give me back a partial refund of $50 but is asking me to close the return because it won’t let him refund partial while the return is open. I am afraid that I will lose my protection if I close the return and then he has the possibility of not refunding me anything and I’m stuck with an item that I paid full price for and was not as described.

Do Not Close the Return.

This Seller is not being honest with you. If you close the return, you won't be able to reopen it and the Seller will have no incentive to refund you anything.

The Seller has three business days from when you opened the return to respond with either a prepaid return label or a refund. If they do not, on the 4th day, go back to the return and ask eBay to step in and force the refund. If you don't see the option to ask eBay to step in, it's too soon. The option will pop up when it's time.

I'm very glad you asked before taking action. The seller is being dishonest with you. If you close the case, you will lose your protection and won't likely hear from the seller again.

Go back to the case and use the option to ask eBay to step in (on day 4 after opening the case). eBay will force the refund and will not require you to return the item.
