I purchased a commercial ice cream/water ice machine on eBay that was advertised as "90% new" for $2,566.93.
The machine was delivered on March 19, 2026. My business opened on April 1, 2026, and the machine was placed into service at that time. Shortly thereafter, it became non-operational due to a confirmed refrigerant leak.
I have already spent approximately $450 in technician diagnostic costs. The condenser has now been identified as the leaking component, and repair estimates are approximately $1,200 plus refrigerant costs. The seller has offered to send a replacement condenser but has not agreed to cover the remaining repair expenses.
eBay informed me that the Money Back Guarantee period has expired. However, I am wondering whether this situation could still be considered an "Item Not As Described" concern given that the machine was advertised as 90% new but became unusable shortly after being placed into service.
Has anyone experienced a similar situation with commercial equipment purchases on eBay, and what options were available?
