I Might Have Been Scammed
Summary: kansaikitty1207 expressed concerns about a potential scam after not receiving a tracking number for an eBay purchase. They mentioned a delivery date change and issues with a seller who had a (0) rating. jacbarcollectibles clarified that only eBay can change delivery dates and advised waiting until the last estimated delivery date has passed before taking action. mudshark61369 explained potential issues with new sellers experiencing payment holds and suggested contacting the seller for resolution. kansaikitty1207 noted the seller had previous buyer feedback, but lacked recent selling history, which might explain the delay.
Hello,
This is the first time in my many years on eBay that I’ve experienced a possible scammer . I made a purchase on August 29th and have not received a tracking number for shipping of my item which the dates were supposed to be 9/2-9/8.
I waited the 3 day window , messaged on 9/4 . No response . Then I saw that today 9/7 the delivery date changed to 9/11-916. I finally got fed up and put in a cancellation for my order .
I think my mistake was the seller had (0) rating . How do I report this to eBay , especially the delivery date change? I have screenshots to prove it .

Reflect on the fact that all members, sellers and buyers alike, start with (0) feedback. That includes you . . . you started with zero. So did I. So did Pierre Omidyar, the founder of eBay.
So, while zero feedback isn't the be-all of decision making, it's one of several factors a potential buyer should take into account when considering a purchase.
One of the other factors to take into account is that a buyer is protected by eBay's Money Back Guarantee. Both buyers and sellers should be cognizant of this factor.

"I think my mistake was the seller had (0) rating".
The problem with buying from (0) feedback sellers is not that they are scammers, but that many if not most of the do not know about the 30 day hold ebay places on all new sellers first several payments. That information which should be in the opening paragraphs of the Getting Started Selling info, is buried deep in the info. What happens is the seller sees that they sold the item, but the payment status on their account says it is Pending, so they may create a label, but do not ship the item because of the Pending notice and often do not respond to messages asking when it will be shipped.
If you want the item, not a refund, use the contact seller button, tell them if they have not shipped your item because of the Pending status of your payment to do a Google search for;
" Payments on hold, ebay ". If they do that they will get the info they need to ship the item and get the funds released.

OP1 month agoGot it.
The only thing is they’re not new. They’ve been around since 2021. They had positive feedback from being a buyer . So I’m not sure f that’s a factor or not .

A (0) feedback seller may have a fair amount of feedback but for buying only, but none for selling at least in the last 12 months, in which case ebay treats them as a New seller and applies the hold to their payments. Holds may also be applied if the seller suddenly increases the volume of their sales, or starts selling items costing much more than the average price of their previous sales. If on the listing page where the seller info is displayed there was a message like The seller has no feedback for selling that's an indication that they are new. Again, contacting the seller with the search i suggested may get the item moving.

OP1 month agoThank you for the info . I really appreciate it. It’s never happened to me before here a seller just doesn’t respond, so it kinda freaked me out .

Mentor1 month agoYou cannot just cancel an order. Only a seller can do this and they are not required to agree to your cancellation request. You will not be able to do anything until the last estimated delivery date shown in your purchase history has passed by at least one full day and not more than 30 days.
Sellers cannot change the estimated delivery dates shown only eBay can. We do not know exactly what eBay looks at when they change the estimated delivery dates since they look at several factors. By the way, if the seller shipped outside of their stated handling time they already received a shipping defect from eBay since they monitor shipping performance of sellers.

OP1 month agoSo eBay does the shipping charge dates ? Wow!
I would be more understanding if the seller would at least communicate with me and let me know what’s going on instead of not responding at all . Then I have to wait until 9/30 ( since I ordered in 8/27). Just clarifying.
