I listed an item that Ebay never notified me of an offer. Buyer wants item
Hi, I listed JBL headphones with a beginning bid of a very low amount. A buyer paid me and is demanding I ship this item. I was never notified by Ebay that an offer was made and if I got this offer, I would have countered it! I will not sell this headset for 5 bucks; what do I do to remedy this please? thank you!

Mentor8 months agoThe item sold at auction for the starting price since you only had one bidder who bid in the last moments of the auction. eBay expects you to complete the sale since you set the starting bid price. Although eBay cannot force you to complete the sale there will be consequences. You will probably receive negative feedback from the buyer and you will receive a defect on your account for not selling the item at the sales price. Being a newer seller this will hurt you in the eyes of eBay and buyers.

You listed the headphones as an auction, not as a Buy It Now listing with Best Offer. When you list an item as an auction, you should start it with a starting bid price that you would be willing to accept if you only get one bid.
You did not do that and now by ebay policy you have to honor that winning price. You can Cancel the transaction and the buyer will be refunded, but doing that will cause your account to get a defect, which can affect your seller status, and cause the payment hold to last a little longer.
The link below explains how to cancel a transaction. DO NOT select Buyer requested cancellation or Problem with address as the reason. If you do that you may receive a 2nd defect on your account, if the buyer knows how to report you.

eBay would notify you if you received an offer, but they do not notify you of bids on auctions, until the auction ends with a winner. It is up to sellers to keep track of the bidding on their auctions.
