I have an ongoing problem with eBay charging me sales tax on clothing when MN doesn't charge it
At least half of the time that I purchase clothing on eBay I incorrectly get charged sales tax because there is none on clothing in MN where all my items ship to and trying to get it refunded through eBay is very time consuming and usually fruitless. I have even considered contacting the MN Attorney General and filing a class action complaint on behalf of all MN eBay clothing purchasers. Last time I finally after fighting with eBay for a month and a half filed a complaint with PayPay to get my money back. Being charged correctly shouldn't be this difficult but eBay does nothing easily!

Clothing sales for general use is not taxable. Clothing accessories, sports or recreational equipment, or protective equipment are taxable.
Usually, when eBay errs on sales tax, it is because the item was listed in a category that is normally taxable, like sports. I would recommend looking at the category of your purchases. If the seller has miscategorized, eBay's system has no way to determine the article is tax exempt, and you would have to contact support for a refund.
If you find a lot of apparel in a non clothing category (collectibles, sports, etc), you might ask a seller to revise the listing to a clothing category for your purchase. If your items were already in a clothing category, then eBay will need to investigate.

·3 years agoMany times when this happens is because the item is listed in the wrong category. EBay assign tax based on the category . Some states don't tax clothing but do tax sportswear.
