I don't understand the extremely large range of UPS and FedEx shipping rates
I've been a member of eBay since 2000 but have only used it here and there over the past 15 years. Now, I'm trying to sell many large items that weigh between 10-20 pounds. My, how the setup of posting new items has changed! During the listing process of a new item, the shipping section gives me an overwhelming number of options. First question is "What is Economy shipping" and why would I use an unspecific method of shipping? Second question is "Why are the suggested UPS and FedEx ranges for my cost so huge?" For a 15 pound item, UPS is $89 - $545 and FedEx is $69 - 462!! (See attached photo) I have turned off international shipping and am charging the buyer a low flat shipping fee of $45. Where on earth would a package be shipping for 400 or 500 bucks in the USA? The link to my item is https://www.ebay.com/itm/374801410255.

Mentor3 years agoThose ranges include very expensive overnight services. If you are going to ship a lot UPS, keep ebay out from the middle and open your own account or for the best discounts, accurate prices upfront, and extra options, open a free PirateShip account, which will import from ebay and upload tracking.

OP3 years agoThank you rfmtm for the reply. Overnight services would explain it BUT as my screenshot showed, the section of shipping options is for "Economy Services". Overnight rates are shown in a different section when you scroll down the list of options as shown in the screen shot below. Somehow I think eBay isn't displaying accurate estimated costs.

Mentor3 years agoEbay estimates are often wrong and worse later incur extra surcharges. What you seeing may be a result of Dimensional weight for oversize packages, which can make normal actual weight prices go up very quickly.
What is the size of your 10-20 pound box?
What prices are you getting for normal ground delivery?

Normal UPS ground is $69 - $462 as per the first screenshot I posted.

Mentor3 years agoYou are see dimensional weight. That size package is billed at the 50# rate, regardless of the actual weight.
Not sure what the range is you are seeing other than it may include Alaska and Hawaii. Check the ebay calculator here for a specific ship to Zip Code:

You can also check the rate at PirateShip.
For that expense of shipping, I'd exclude all but the continental states and use calculated shipping. Also note, that sometimes if the item can be shipped two smaller boxes, it might be cheaper than one big one.
