I suspect you made an 8 HUNDRED Dollar bid, missing the decimal divider. If the auction is still running (and has at least 12 hours to go or your bid was placed in the last 60 minutes): What is the item number?

A typo in entering the bid amount is the ONLY bidder error that may be corrected by retracting the bid. You must rebid the correct amount (the amount you intended to type in the first place) immediately after the retraction goes through. There are time limits (12 hours before the scheduled auction end or 1 hour after the bid was placed, whichever is later, but in no case later than the actual end of the auction) so don't delay.

If the auction has ended you can request the seller to cancel the order but be aware s/he has no data to know whether you are just making an excuse for getting carried away as opposed to having made a typo. In the first hour after the auction end you can make a special request to cancel (eBay sometimes says YOU can cancel but the seller can reject it within 3 days) from your Purchase History (More actions for that transaction).
