Therefore -- it seems logical to assume that you have a Social Security Number, issued by the US Social Security Administration. THAT is the number you use when you are preparing your federal income tax return, Form 1040 or appropriate version. Edited to add:I just took a look at one of many Form 1099-K examples available on the "interwebs." The first box in the upper left corner is the Filer's name. For Forms 1099-K issued by eBay, that box would indicate "eBay, Inc." and an address, etc. The next box at the top of the form is labeled: Filer's TIN. That would be, of course, eBay's Tax Identification Number. The IRS only cares about eBay's TIN when eBay is required to issue a Form 1099-K for your earnings. You state you didn't earn enough for eBay to issue you a 1099-K. So you don't need to worry about eBay's tax identification number. golfingaddictMentor7 months ago27172View listingsYou don't need a 1099-K to report your income on your tax forms. You do not need a federal filers ID. (This generally refers to an employers ID number) Since eBay is not your employer, you do not need this or get this. You really should contact a tax professional to get the help in filing your taxes with your eBay sales. They are the best people to advise you on this.
