I bid on something that still had time left and it said it was sold already. I should win the auction because I bid higher than it sold for.

No you shouldn't. You may have attempted to bid but sounds like you bid too late. The time shown on the countdown is NOT an accurate measure of how much time you have left to submit your bid so that it is RECEIVED before the end of the last second. Or there are other reasons why a bid might be rejected by eBay, but if you are trying to bid in the last few seconds the script running for the countdown overwrites any error messages you would receive when your clock gets to 0, so you don't get a chance to read it.

Further just because the PRICE is lower than your attempted bid doesn't mean that the winner's BID wasn't more or equal to your bid (ties go to the earlier bid).
