·2 years agoAt some point, you selected that payment source for purchases. You may not realize or remember doing this, but you absolutely did. eBay does not choose for you.
Now, upon completion of a buy-it-now purchase, or in the event of an auction winning bid, that buyer-chosen payment source is charged.

·2 years ago@Anonymous That is not correct. In situations other than where the buyer authorized automatic payment when making a Best Offer (or possibly a bid but I think they stopped that experiment years ago) the buyer still has to go through Checkout, eBay merely pre-populates the form with the default payment source you set up, which you can easily change (like you can change the default shipping address).
@wil424017 If you "are done with eBay" then stop posting new threads about the same thing.

·2 years agoPerhaps you are unaware, but eBay currently is requiring some (not all… yet) buyers to authorize a payment source prior to placing bids on auctions. In the event the buyer wins, the buyer is charged immediately.
I know this firsthand. I just did it. Bid, won, and was charged automatically. I did nothing aside from placing a bid.
This started a couple of months ago.
Sellers currently have to option to turn a setting on/off which requires immediate payment at auction end.
I currently have mine off so that buyers may request a combined shipping invoice for multiple purchases.
eBay is doing this in an effort to prevent non-paying bidders on auctions.

·2 years agoWas it actually a "bid" on an auction, as opposed to a Best Offer? If a bid, how long ago was it?
eBay removed the bid option from the seller's Buyer Requirements page several weeks ago, which along with the drop in posts about autopay specifically tied to auction bids led me to tentatively conclude (re-read my post which specifically brings this up) that they stopped the testing for preauthorization/autopay on auction bids.
And you mentioned Buy It Now being automatically charged to the default funding source; Immediate Payment Required means going through Checkout (where the funding source can be changed from the default) before the transaction happens. eBay does not automatically charge your default funding source when you click the BIN button, you CAN change it on the next screen if it is a checkout screen (or when you pay later if it is a confirmation of commitment to buy where the BIN is not IPR).
