I am GA resident and was charged sales tax on a collector coin
In Georgia, bullion and numismatic coins or currency (gold, silver, platinum, and similar legal-tender coins) can be exempt from sales and use tax when sold as bullion/coins/currency
That's the law. The stupid automatic thing responds with tis statement but says to contact GA tax authority. How do I speak to a human instead of a stupid machine?

Mentor3 weeks agoMy fellow mentor has given a good explanation of why sales taxes are sometimes collected by/on eBay when, if you had bought the collector coin in a shop in Georgia, you probably would not have been asked to pay sales taxes.
At this point, I suggest you refer to the official website for the State of Georgia.
You may be able to request a sales tax refund from Atlanta now,
rather than wait for next year's income tax filing date.

Mentor3 weeks agoThis is a common problem when sellers do not list their item in the proper category and sub category. Sales tax is determined based on the category and sub category the item is listed in and not by what the item is. So when sellers do not list the item correctly sales tax can be charged when it may not be required.
There should be a way to reclaim the sales tax when filing you State income tax return.
