I am a eBay scam victim and want to share my story
I have been an eBay member for years with 100% positive feedback.
I purchased a $400 watch from a seller with zero feedback but I proceeded because eBay has a buyer protection policy. I also used PayPal to have double protection.
This is the scam. The seller finds an address near me, ships a cheap item to get a tracking number. When the item gets delivered they the post that number on my purchase and take all my money.
both eBay and PayPal will accept any tracking number that shows an item delivered to my city even though it was not the item I ordered.
Both eBay and Postal don’t make the seller prove that the tracking number went to my address and I can’t prove what address it went to.
I even visited my local post office. They confirmed the tracking number was not sent to my address and had a different name but they wouldn’t tell me where or provide anything in writing for me.
All I can do is record another conversation with the post office if they let me but both eBay and PayPal will not help me, the victim.

OP8 months agoI pleaded with my post office for help and explained the scam. They printed out what is called the full tracking intranet record for this tracking number. They then used a black marker and whiteout to cover the home number but left the street name, city, state and zip. Also the package weight was half of what the item should have been. They also didn’t address it to any person.
I sent a scanned PDF to PayPal customer support and am waiting for an email response.
eBay is waiting for PayPal because I started a dispute with both of them.
It’s been 24 hours with no response yet. I will follow back up when I get one.

What you need to do is get a confirmation from the post office on their letterhead that the item was shipped to a different address from yours. You can use that in a case for an item not received case. That's the proof you need (you don't need to know what address is was sent to - just that it wasn't yours).
