How to verify
I received a message from a user saying that an item I sold him stopped working. I apologized and said to return it and I would replace. The order number he gave me is the products item number and a search on his id does not show any previous sale in the last year. When I look at his profile it shows his feedback which is all over 6 months old. One thing to note is that his last feedback does appear to be from me as I use a custom feedback but it has my sellers id redacted and no date. How can I confirm his order? What concerns me about this transaction is he is saying I forgot to install a part in the product I sell and there is no way that could happen. I suspect he removed it or someone else did as I carefully build each unit I sell. I do put a serial number sticker on my products and I believe it was sold in April of 2025. Looks like I will have to invest in security stickers now. But in any case how can I find his order so I may verify the transaction.

You could pull a sales report and look for an order from April 2025. It's possible the buyer revised his username - that keeps the feedback and history but if you are looking for Joe123 the same buyer may be Smith456. However, *both* will click through the current name.
I suggest you run a transaction list from April 1 2025 to April 30 2025 and search by that item number
https://www.ebay.com/mes/transactionlist?sh=true
That should give you a shorter list of potential sales to review.
Now, you don't need to accept a return at this time, it's past eBay's Money Back Guarantee of 30 days and it is likely past the credit card chargeback which are sometimes 6 months.
But if you want to find the transaction and work with the buyer, you should be able to find the purchase that way.
