How to report a scam?
I've definitive proof of a scam from the postal service. I need to report this, however, Ebay does not seem to provide a mechanism for this.

Mentor9 months ago@crimeny. What type of scam?
Does tracking show delivery to a different location?

OP9 months agoYes. I have a letter from the postal service saying the tracking number does not match the item nor my delivery address.

Mentor9 months ago@crimeny I'm sorry that happened. It sounds like you are a victim of the false tracking scam. This is a problem not just with bad sellers on eBay but other sites too.
Sorry if this is a bit of a form reply but sadly we get so many of these that I need to use a macro>
1 It sounds like you completed this step
a)
b) If your name and address weren't on that label, ask the postal carrier if they will put this in writing. Also, ask for the weight of the package using that tracking number. Follow the rest of the steps here:
2) Then, report the seller using this process
https://www.ebay.com/help/action?topicid=4022
Important, select "The seller has violated one of eBay’s policies"
then "Other"
Explain that the seller is using fake USPS tracking numbers
Include these phrases
Seller uploaded tracking not associated with my transaction
Tracking details were not accurate
Seller use a false tracking number
Don't write a novel, it's initially being read by a computer, that's why I want you to use those 3 specific phrases in the message.
3) Finally, contact Customer Service and inform them that the seller uploaded a "false tracking number" on your purchase. Request a refund.
Use the Customer Service that is on social media this way:
Just send a private message to the page. Explain you have a fake or false tracking number situation.
If the above steps do not result in a refund then you will have to pursue a chargeback with your funding source ( bank, credit card, etc) . Once you ask your funding source to step in eBay can no longer assist you.

OP9 months agoThanks. For the reply. I will follow the steps you've laid out.
If eBay gets a lot of these, then that suggests there's a bigger problem that needs to be addressed.
For example, I was scammed on this same item by two different sellers, in two different states, bought on the same day. One of the sellers didn't provide a tracking number. Ebay refunded my money for that transaction.
However, the false tracking number issue has not been resolved to my satisfaction. I believe the transactions are somehow connected to the same individual. If that's the case ebay has some real problems. I work in IT. This smells very foul to me. Ebay needs to get to the root of the problem and solve it.

Mentor9 months agoI totally understand and share your frustration. eBay is working with other shipping carriers to try and stop these types of scams.
We Mentors bring this up to eBay staff at our monthly meetings and are keeping a running list of people who have been affected by the scam.
I do know that the method I suggested sometimes works to get a refund eBay as reported by other members.
Keep in mind that we are not eBay employees and are doing our best to help you get a refund.
