How to report a buyer who provided an incorrect address?
A buyer deliberately provided an address/phone number that does not exist. I would like to report him before he tries purchasing from another seller (he has 7 feedback so far). I already messaged him (he did not respond) and cancelled/refunded the BIN order but the Report A Buyer page only lets me do so if the person has no intention of paying or is sending harassing messages. Just wondering if a buyer who gives an incorrect address can be reported.

OP1 year agoPlease only respond to my question if you can provide helpful information, not make excuses for the buyer who is obviously a scammer. Thank you.

Providing an incorrect address is not a reportable offense.
No one is told how to respond here (other than to follow the community guidelines which apply to all eBay members).
My response was meant to be helpful. I'm sorry you don't think it was. If you provided information that would indicate how this is a scam or how the buyer could benefit from paying you for an item he would never get, perhaps we could offer different responses.

·1 year agoWhy would you look up the address? I’ve been selling on eBay for over 26 years, across multiple user accounts, and have never looked up an address. We have seller protection as long as we ship to the address eBay provides with the payment. There was no reason for you to cancel the transaction.

How did the buyer provide that address – did it come in with his payment? And how did you determine that the address doesn't exist? You say the member has seven feedbacks, so evidently he was able to receive at least seven items.
You've already cancelled, and presumably chose problem with address as the reason. If the information that indicated the address doesn't exist was incorrect, the buyer may be, at this very moment, reporting you to eBay for deliberately choosing the wrong reason so you could avoid getting a Defect.

OP1 year agoI looked up the address on Google and on the USPS address lookup. The street name does not exist. The phone number has 11 numbers in it. He could have received the positive feedback from those sellers before the items shipped. When someone buys my item, I leave feedback thanking them for purchasing as soon as I am notified of the sale. I could have refunded and forgotten about it but just looking out for other sellers who may not catch it before shipping the item to an incorrect address and dealing with the problems it will cause.

There is no way for you to know that the buyer deliberately gave you a non-existent address. For example, he might have typed in an alternate address at checkout, and made a typo. What possible benefit would there be to the buyer to give you a fictitious address along with a payment for something he won't receive?
If the address isn't in the USPS database, you will likely not be able to create a label and the package will not be able to be shipped. If the package is somehow accepted by USPS and cannot be delivered due to the address being unknown or more likely incomplete, then it will almost certainly be returned to you.
