How To Protect Against Buyer Dishonesty
I am selling a diamond engagement ring at the moment and something occurs to me. I'm sure that the buyer will be an honest person but I'm wondering whether there is a way that I can protect myself. For example, what it a buyer claims that the ring was not in the package that I ship? Strictly speaking, someone *could* say this even though it is not true? How can I prove that I sent what I will send? A picture won't prove anything. I suppose I could take a video of me packing it at the UPS store and handing it to the UPS person but that seems a bit much. Is there a service? Thank you. Dan

Mentor3 years agoHigh value high risk items are best sold locally for cash. Do not list what you can't afford to lose.

OP3 years agoI hear you but there has to be a way. There used to be eBay Stores (brick and mortar); I think that would have been a way to mitigate the risk. Hoping someone from eBay will advise as well.

To mitigate the risk, sell it locally for cash.
Any safeguards you thought you knew about are gone.
Online venues that allow buyers to pay with a credit card are the worst option for selling pricey goods.
Your listing for the ring isn’t good enough to entice a legitimate buyer. The photos of the ring are not clear. I see a ring, not even in a ring box.
If one expects a buyer to give them thousands of dollars, the listing description and photos need to reflect that value.
I am not putting down your listing for no reason. I am trying to convince you to reconsider this listing before someone bids and you can’t get out of it.
