How to handle an irrational buyer...
He offered me $350 on my listing; Item ID: 256833318439
I accepted it. I was now bound to deliver on his item. An hour later (according to my Email time/date stamp), he requested me to cancel the offer. I saw this request this afternoon (2/27/25), not when he sent it, but it was an hour AFTER I had accepted his offer. I was not required to accept the cancellation and chose not to.
This evening he sent me this message on eBay:
"I cancelled this order within 1 hour at midnight. It is not possible that you shipped before my cancellation. I will leave a bad review if you still ship it."
And this was my response:
"eBay is the one who made that claim. Not me. I shipped it today (2/27/25). However, you should not have offered $350 if you were not willing to pay $350. You asked to cancel the offer an hour *AFTER* I accepted your offer. I will gladly provide proof of this.I will also forward this message directly to eBay. Threatening to leave negative feedback for me doing EXACTLY as I am required to (upon acceptance of your offer), is a very bad business tactic, especially given that you offered $350 and I accepted $350. I was not required to accept your request to cancel the offer. I chose not to, based on the fact YOU offered $350 and I accepted it. The fact you're threatening negative feedback now, after I've given you positive feedback, will NOT reflect positively on you with eBay. Have a nice evening... and enjoy your HP Spectre x360 Convertible laptop. It's yours now. The tracking number will show when it will arrive. I also took lots of pictures of it's condition and how I packed it, because my wife warned me you might do this (after I told her you requested offer cancellation)... but I'm not worried. I have done nothing wrong, but you now HAVE."
And his response:
"We shall see how things work out."

I have to say, I have NEVER had someone do this to me, for as long as I've been using eBay! This guy initially bid $300, which was automatically declined. He then offered $350, which I then accepted. He then proceeds to try and back out AFTER I accepted his offer... isn't that against the rules?
Hopefully someone from eBay can put this guy on notice for being very dishonorable in their conduct, because I see it as nothing less. Am I right?

No good ever comes from trying to force a buyer to complete a purchase they no longer want. While you did not have to accept the cancellation, it would have been in your best interest to accept it. Remember that buyers almost always have the last word, one way or another.
You should be able to get any negative feedback removed that he leaves, and eBay will send a message that his message to you violated policy. But remember that you are obligated to accept any not as described return request. Expect him to open one for the smallest difference, including arriving after the estimated delivery date.
If for some reason the return is not accepted through eBay, he can file a charge back with his credit card issuer.
