Hi everyone,
I am a brand-new seller on eBay, and I am very eager to start listing my items and building a legitimate business here. However, I’ve been feeling quite hesitant lately due to some advice I received from a few friends who previously tried selling on eBay.
They told me that as a new seller with an initial limit of 10 items (or $500), listing up to that limit right away would trigger eBay’s automated bots and lead to an immediate account suspension. Because of this belief—and their inability to figure out how to safely increase their selling limits—they completely gave up on selling on eBay altogether.
As a beginner, this sounds a bit overwhelming, and I want to make sure I approach this the right way from day one. I would love to get some guidance from experienced mentors here:
Is there any truth to this "bot suspension" myth? What actually causes new accounts to get flagged or suspended when starting with a 10-item limit?
What is the safest strategy to list my first few items without raising any unnecessary red flags?

Yes there is a 10 item $500 limit per month on new seller listings. That does not mean a seller should start out by going straight for the limit. Some sellers have their account suspended because they list 10 items, but when one sells they try replace it, taking them over the limit which includes sold items in the monthly limit. Seller's accounts are reviewed monthly and if they meet the requirements the limit can be raised. Start by reading the info in the links below.

New sellers should know the terms of ebay's Money Back Guarantee for buyers, because not knowing what to do if there's a problem can result in defects on your account resulting in limits not being raised and payment holds to last longer.

Not knowing what you intend to sell or the categories you intend to sell in we can't offer more specific advice, but a couple of general things you should do are: Use only clear photos showing every angle of an item. In the Seller description do not use A.I. or Mfr. generated info. Especially, for pre-owned items. If you are't sure what an item is supposed to do, what comes with it, or how it works look it up and its reviews online. There's an unwritten golden rule for successful selling on ebay:
Describe all items as if there are no photos and photograph them as if there is no description.
