How to ensure that a buyer doesn’t claim that an item is fake when it is genuine?
Hi All,
I am considering listing a luxury item but I am concerned that a buyer might buy it and then claim that it is not genuine. I understand that ebay has an authenticity guarantee but that only seems to happen by default if the price of the item is $2000 or above. If the price of the item is less than that and I as a seller want to protect my item against fraudulent claims, how is that done on this platform? Is there a way to force an authenticity guarantee without giving it as an option?
If any of you do this often, do you take extra insurance? how do you handle shipping etc to ensure that the item isn’t lost, stolen, or purposefully claimed as missing etc.
Trying to understand this and any help or reference to articles and official ebay help would be much appreciated.

OP8 months agoIs there a way I can pay for the authenticity guarantee program without it being an option to the buyer?
Is this also applicable for other non-luxury items like books, shoes etc? How can I as a seller document evidence of authenticity? or is there no way for us sellers to protect ourselves?

In addition to what @evry1nositswindy has provided here is a link to Selling with the authenticity guarantee: Selling with Authenticity Guarantee | eBay
You cannot pick and choose, eBay decides. If you are this concerned now with possibly getting scammed then I suggest not trying to sell the item on eBay right now. You have a newer Selling account and will be a target for scammers on a high value high risk item, period.
We advise new Sellers to gain experience selling lower value lower risk items to gain experience. You DO have some protections with the eBay Authenticity Guarantee program but no system is perfect just so you know.

Mentor8 months agoThere is no guarantee unless it is shipped through the eBay authenticity program. Any buyer can claim it was not genuine and win the case. You do not have a seller protection with this. As a new seller, you would be a target for a scammer. Unless you're comfortable letting the buyer keep the item and having to refund them, I wouldn't list it.
Maybe you should read up on the eBay 30 day money back guarantee, as all sellers have to abide by this rule. https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy?id=4210&st=3&pos=1&query=eBay%20Money%20Back%20Guarantee%20policy&intent=30%20day%20money%20back%20guarantee&lucenceai=lucenceai&docId=HELP1238
