How to cofllect the shipping on multiple (same item) items from a buyer.
When I first started selling on eBay, I had a listing that had 4 available of the same item. An order came in for 2 of them, but I couldn't figure out how to add the additional shipping charge, so I just ate the expense. I recently listed something that has 7 of the product. Someone sent me an offer for $203; shipping on one item is $16. I called eBay to ask how to compute this, and all I was told was to redo the listing. I told him I couldn't since it is in the counter-offer stage. He was of no help. I ended up declining the offer w/a message spelling out what they should do...I informed buyer that I would accept the $203 for the 7 items, but only one of shipping is included in the listing, so they would have to pay additional $96 (6 x $16) since each has to be shipped separately. I told him to go back to my listing and offer $299 which would cover everything. I haven't heard anything from them for two days. I've seen listings that mention if buying multiple items, to contact the seller first to figure out the combined shipping. What if buyer doesn't do this and just orders multiple items? Or if they've already paid and I need additional money? I've also been told to just accept the offer and then send an invoice afterwards to buyer. I don't know anything about an invoice-plus if I accept, I would be locked in to whatever the buyer originally clicked on/offered. I know there's a way to do this, I just don't know what it is. Since eBay is able to do so much with our listings, I don't understand how they can't pop up the shipping charge and let us adjust it somehow. Please share your experiences and suggestions.
