OP9 months agoThank you again for your help. This has literally been the worst experience that I can remember. I'm trying to refund the buyer, but I'm unable to do so. I'm getting the below message: "You cannot issue a refund at this time because a return request is open for an item in this order."

Mentor9 months ago@mo_84061 Sorry, I had stepped away and lost my train of thought.....
If I understand correctly you do already have the item back?
So then you just need to issue a refund from the case.

OP9 months agoI did. I received the returned jacket today (minus the certificate), but that is what it is.

OP9 months agoOh wow! I really am clueless. Thank you so much for the clarification. I do have a preferred method for selling cost accounts established, but I would like to change it to a credit card. Is it too late to do so since the buyer is waiting for the refund?

Mentor9 months ago@mo_84061 IF eBay has not taken it yet then I recommend changing it ASAP and then approving the refund. You don't want eBay to force the refund or you don't get your sellers fees back.
Go here and select EDIT and then preferred for selling costs.

OP9 months agoThank you! This sell has been an issue from the start. I know a lot because of my ignorance. This was my first sell (and last)! The buyer received the item and says that it doesn't meet expectations based on the overview, and they were returning the item. I do stand 100% behind what I wrote, but totally understand if they don't want it and disagree with me. It took significantly longer for the item to be delivered because, apparently, the shipping label eBay offered me to purchase with the sale did not cover the shipping cost. So, it sat at a USPS facility for longer than anticipated, due to that and the holidays. I tried to message the buyer when I received notification of the stalled delivery, but the user account didn't exist (which did raise a red flag at the time). Finally, eBay withdrew the additional postage funds needed from my account, and the item was delivered last week. Ebay has been holding the funds for the purchase since the sell date (December 16th), so I never received payment (which I was expecting). I assumed the funds wouldn't be deposited until the buyer received the item and was happy with it. I received the returned item today. The storage box I mailed with the item was destroyed (I'm not worried about that). But the certificate of authenticity is missing (the item was purchased new for $1,200). I messaged the buyer (it went through this time). I asked if they could please mail the certificate back to me. Of course, apologizing to them again for their dissatisfaction with the item. They responded that they never received the item and to contact eBay. I messaged them back, saying that someone had returned the item because it wasn't returned in its original shipping box, and that someone using their account had reported the item to trigger the return. They responded again, instructing me to contact eBay, but they had not received the item or reported the item. So, now I'm left completely clueless about what's going on. I'm sure I'll be charged more for the shipping cost of the returned item (which was sent in a huge, oversized box). At this point, I'm going to be out possibly over $100 in shipping costs, as well as the cost of selling the item on eBay. I'm sure there's nothing I can do, and I'm not even sure what I want to happen; I just want to relay the sequence of events to eBay. Especially if I'm getting scammed, at least maybe I could save someone else from the same issue.

Mentor9 months ago@mo_84061 Okay... here's the time line as I see it>>
You sold the coat and it was sent to the Authenticity Guaranteed center but you underpaid postage.
The Authenticity Guaranteed center returned the item to you but did not include the certificate of authenticity. Accessories and other items do sometimes get lost at the Authenticity center. You can reach out to eBay on Social Media and see if they can possibly help track it down but I would not hold my breathe.
As for the return shipping, sorry to say you are going to be out that money.
You should however get the Buyers original payment released to you AFTER you refund the buyer.
This is how refunds work>>
Refunds, even for order cancellations, come out of your available funds not pending or held. If you do not have available funds then eBay charges your back up payment method for selling costs.
Have you entered your backup payment method for selling costs here: https://ppcapp.ebay.com/myppc/wallet/list Select Manage under the method you want to use then select Preferred for selling costs. I use a credit card.
Once you issue the refund and the buyers funds are released from being held or finish processing then the buyers payment is released to you.

Mentor9 months ago@mo_84061 We can tell you how to handle issues with selling and provide accurate advice based on eBay policy if you tell use what went wrong with the sale.
Keep in mind that eBay agents can NOT change policy although sometimes they may promise x, y, z.
I recommend asking your question here first. We can provide accurate answers and save you time and the frustration of dealing with the bots for most questions. We are experienced buyers and sellers that know eBay policies and procedures.
