How to Appeal for Bad Transmission Purchase that can't be returned but deserves a refund
What can I or should I have done to get a refund on a bad transmission I purchased on eBay? It seems like I never had a chance.
On 10/31/25 I purchased a used transmission on Ebay for $686.24. Here is the order info: https://order.ebay.com/ord/show?orderId=16-13764-88103#/
They delivered it 11/10/25. I had negotiated with my mechanic to install it for $1400. He completed installation on 11/16/25. He called me telling me it was a "bad transmission" On 11/18 I requested a refund. The return ID issued was 5305965190.
I contacted the seller yawonline seeking a refund. I encourage you to read the many notes we exchanged. Initially we agreed that it was impossible/unnecessary for me to return the transmission. This was for several reasons:
1) Very heavy and expensive to return
2) It would cost more for me to have the part uninstalled than the value of the return
3) The transmission did not work as evidenced by my salvaging the car and by the testimony of my mechanic. I submitted this to yawonline.
After several contradictory/non-sensical (AI generated?) messages from them they said they would issue me a return label. I reminded them that I could not return the item (for the reasons above plus they had agreed that I was salvaging the vehicle and did not even belong to me). I further argued that an inspection of the part on their end would do no good as they could not tell if the part was good or bad without installing it in a car which they were not going to do as it costs at least $1400 to do this. They decided to now try to run out the clock on the refund. The rules seem to be that if I don't return the part they don't have to issue a refund. But they sold me a bad part. They know it. That I salvaged the car and bought a new one proves it. I did not ask them to pay the fees I had to pay the mechanic though they cost me that plus the loss of a car that would have been worth aroung $5000 if the transmission had been good. I only requested the $686 that I paid.
I tried to appeal to ebay but you do not let me do that while the return request is in process. They issued me a mailing sticker knowing that I could not use it. The appeal stayed in limbo until the time limit ran out and eBay closed the return. I had been told after the return was closed I could appeal to eBay. But now I can find nowhere to appeal to you. Because apparently I failed by not returning the part. I could never return the part. I could never appeal to you. the facts are that they sold me a bad part with a money back guarantee. They know I can't return it. They cost me much more money than the purchase price but they won't even refund the purchase price. Please have a human being look into this and give me some degree of justice.
Thank you.
