How long for a return?
Summary: brad-5037 described a situation where an item was sent to a buyer who claimed it arrived damaged and requested a discount. After multiple messages, brad-5037 refunded the buyer and provided a return label, but has not received the item back after a month. They believe the situation might be a scam and sought advice. jacbarcollectibles mentioned that once the refund is given, the buyer is not obligated to return the item, and eBay cannot force a return. stuff4divas confirmed that refunding before receiving the item allows the buyer to keep it.
Sent an Item to buyer. Buyer sent picture saying it broke open upon delivery. Buyer asked for discount. Messaged me multiple times. I told him to pleases send it back. I refunded money and paid for return label. That was a month ago. I blocked the Buyer cause it feels like a Scam. The Buyer changed his Ebay name. It has been a month and I have not got my item returned. I would like Ebay to step in, so I may either get my Item back or a refund. Any suggestions? I tried contacting Ebay and reporting the Buyer.

In the future, do not refund until after you receive the returned item unless you do not want the item returned.

Mentor3 weeks ago@brad-5037 nobody can 'force' this buyer to return your item since refunding them b4 receiving it back gives them permission to keep it and it sounds like that is exactly what this person intends to do

Mentor3 weeks agoI am sorry to say that once you refunded the buyer they can no longer access the return label. As far as eBay is concerned the return is over once you refunded and the buyer no longer has to return the item. There is nothing to report to eBay.
If the buyer is still willing to return the item you will need to purchase a return label outside of eBay and send it to the buyer. eBay cannot force the buyer to return the item.
