How is it OK for seller to cancel bids and remove item?
Experienced several instances when bidding on rare items that mid-way through the bidding process the seller suddenly cancels all bids and removes item altogether from the listings. I suspect this means seller has cut a deal with a buyer outside of the eBay bidding process. How is this allowed?

Mentor1 year agoCutting deals and ending an auction with bids to sell outside of eBay is not allowed; depending on what reason the seller cites for the cancellations, the seller's account may receive a costly defect, and the seller may be charged fees equivalent to selling to the highest cancelled bid.
eBay cannot force a bidder to pay or a seller to ship, though.
Sellers can end listings but can not remove the listings entirely within ninety days of ending; if a listing disappears immediately it is because eBay has specifically removed that listing or that seller from the site, often for serious policy violations. Some of the listings removed that way are removed because they are scams or because the items are not allowed to be sold on eBay.
Sellers that routinely cancel bids or sales typically do not last very long on eBay, which suggests a general strategy of avoiding entering into deals with new or inexperienced sellers, or any sellers offering deals that are obviously "too good to be true".
