How does EBay get away with this?
Summary: jo-804147 expressed frustration after being informed by eBay that their bid on a printer was successful, despite initially being told it was sold to someone else. They had already purchased a different printer from Amazon and are upset about the lack of communication options with eBay to resolve the issue. disneyshopper suggested that a cancellation by the initial buyer might have led the seller to accept the bid, but questions the handling of pending offers after a sale.
I made an offer for a printer and saw after that it was sold, but not to me. Then when I woke up the next day, EBay informed me that my bid was successful. This is not right because after seeing that someone else had gotten it, I bought one from Amazon. Now, I can return the Amazon one but shouldn’t have to. It is not right that I was told I didn’t get it then changed later by Ebay. To make matters worse, EBay has no way to contact them (not the seller) about this issue. This is a bad business.

Mentor3 weeks agoIt sounds like the buyer cancelled for some reason, and since your offer was still in place, the seller accepted it. But, I think once an item is sold, all pending offers are then voided.

OP3 weeks agoI agree they should be. I can’t be held responsible to pay after being initially denied.
