How do you report a seller?
I purchased a high-value item on eBay that was listed as new and factory sealed. What I received was not only the wrong product, but it was clearly opened and missing several high-value components.
I contacted the seller to try to resolve the issue, but the responses were hostile and accusatory rather than helpful. After that, I left negative feedback and immediately opened a return request.
What surprised me is that the negative feedback was removed almost instantly, and the seller was also able to close the return request on their end. I’ve since opened an appeal with eBay, but I’m trying to understand how this process works.
Specifically:
Under what circumstances can a seller have feedback removed so quickly?
How is a seller able to close a return request before eBay reviews it?
Is there a way to formally report abusive seller messages or a pattern of misrepresentation?
I’m confident eBay will review my appeal, but I’m concerned about how this seller maintains a 100% positive rating if this is how disputes are handled. Any insight into the proper escalation paths or relevant eBay policies would be appreciated.

Mentor9 months agoThe seller would have not been able to deny your return request if you had a valid reason per the Ebay Money Back Guarantee.
What reason did you choose for filing the Return Request?
There are a few reasons why the negative feedback would have been removed. Did it violate Ebay feedback policy?

OP9 months agoWell, Ebay completely removed it so it is impossible for me to check. But I basically said 2 things:
1) The wrong item was sent, and that I reached out to the seller and was immediately rejected
2) The rejection itself was wildly inappropriate, and I did copy/paste their response to me (there was no personal information or slurs involved) into the feedback.
I suppose it is possible it was removed for (2), but still, I think that is a really bad way for Ebay to handle this kind of situation. The seller's rating is still 100% positive, so it's not like my feedback has any weight regardless of whether or not you can read it.
