Whether a transaction is taxed depends on the law in the state the item is being shipped to, but also upon the category the item is listed in. An exempt item listed in a nonexempt category may be subject to sales tax.
I would suggest that if you place an item in your cart and see a sales tax line item, avoid completing the purchase if you do not want to pay the tax. Then examine which category the item was listed in so you can avoid purchasing items in that category if you want to avoid sales tax.

Texas does not require the collection of taxes on the following products and delivered to a Texas address:
– Legal tender coins made of gold or silver; or that are numismatic; or
– Refined bullion products made of gold, silver, or platinum (excluding jewelry).
All other products sold are subject to sales taxes in Texas.

Mentor6 months agoWhat makes the purchase "tax exempt"? Have you checked your state's tax authority website regarding taxable/non-taxable items?
If you have a sales tax exemption from your state, you will need to provide the documentation to Ebay.
