"Business Equipment Purchase Protection
This item is eligible for up to $200,000 in Business Equipment Purchase Protection.

It tells you what you need to do.

-Car?
-RV?
-Jewelry?
-Other?
-Did the Seller tell you that eBay will process the shipment from their warehouse (which actually does not exist) or other eBay location but you need to pay them directly, and maybe with some gift cards?
-Did you exchange messages via you cell phone or email account outside eBay?
-Did they need to move the item quickly because they are moving themselves or for some other reason that might necessitate a quick sale?
-Did someone recently die in their family and they were liquidating the estate?

OP3 years agoThe item is a mini excavator. Nothing seemed unusual. We messaged back and forth for about a week and negotiated a price with the seller. He wasn't super responsive to my messages. We've purchased heavy equipment in the same way many times. When we go to checkout, Ebay doesn't give us the option to pay any way other than a credit card, but our bank's card limits won't allow us to pay that way. I asked the seller if we could do a wire transfer (which is normal when buying this type of equipment when it's not in your area, because they won't ship it until they receive payment). He said yes that was fine and called me to arrange the details. Got a call back from him a couple days later stating he recieved the payment and was sending me the bill of sale for the equipment. The bill of sale shows that he is with a company called Rock Heavy Equipment. (Prior to that, I thought we were just purchasing it from a guy, not a dealer). Recieved the bill of sale, and he said he was working on getting it shipped (since you have to contact trucking companies to arrange it). Got word from seller that it could be here on 7/24 and he asked if we wanted a 12pm delivery or a 5pm delivery. No call, no show. We tried contacting him by phone, email, and ebay message. Got an email back the next day from him saying he apologizes for the delay and that he was waiting for the trucking company to update him on the new shipping date. Haven't heard anything since and have tried to reach him multiple times in multiple ways. Seller did not say anything about needing to get rid of equip quickly or anything like that. We had worked out a price that seemed reasonable - it wasn't an outrageously good deal or anything. I'm usually pretty good at identifying scams etc and no red flags went up for me. The gentleman had a slight southern accent, and company is in Virginia so all of that seemed ok, too. He didn't seem super eager to sell.

Mentor3 years ago@coralb8 Thanks for that additional information ... since you wired them money outside eBay then eBay has no skin in the game and you have no Money Back Guarantee with eBay. I googled them and yes, they are down in Williamsburg, VA ...
