How do we get eBay to reverse idiotic policy on holding funds until delivery?
Please let me know if there is already a mass of sellers willing to team up. As a seller of 21 years, this is by far the most aggregious move by eBay to capitalize on their sellers who already pay them ridiculous fees. In the year 2025, after decades of building policies and measures to protect buyers and sellers.... holding funds putting sellers on the hook for cash flow, USPS incompetency (not scanning items delivered)... and therefore enabling dishonest buyers... is a complete slap in the face and a play to make money on the money as they hold it... nothing else. Even worse... eBay won't release the funds unless as a seller you then chase down incompetent USPS who is not going to do anything, because they're incompetent to say it nicely. Selling anything of little value is now worthless on ebay because you take the risk (I'm 10/100) of losing the money completely and wasting so much time you're in the red. Absolutely disgusted... thought I'd manage around it but thinking about leaving eBay for good and finding other ways to sell as they deserve to be boycotted on this policy alone.

OP1 year agoMAIN POINT -- They did it because they could, for profit, with no regard for how it hurts sellers, not because it was some magic cure to make transactions safer. There were already many many safeguards in place to protect buyers from fraudulent sellers.

The hold on funds that you're talking about is a safeguard for eBay. If the seller is a fraud and sells some $5,000 piece of technology as his (yes: HIS) first sale, but sends a box of old newspapers, the buyer will get his/her money back. The hold on the multi-thousands allows eBay to send those dollars back to the buyer; eBay will not have to eat the loss because of one cheating seller.
eBay is a corporation. It has to keep its shareholders happy, by keeping profits up. I think that, in the past, before starting this "hold" procedure, eBay lost a few instances of multi-thousand dollar sales from cheating "sellers", which makes its shareholders very unhappy.
Naturally, a lying fraudster of an eBay "seller" will be unhappy with this corporate decision.

When you sell on Ebay, you abide by their terms.
Actually, this began when Ebay started managing payments instead of Paypal, not just in 2025.
Per Ebay: In most cases, holds are lifted when we can confirm an order has arrived to the buyer or, in the event of a dispute, when a case is resolved in the seller’s favor. We use tracking to confirm a buyer has received their item. To get your funds faster, we recommend sending your item and uploading tracking within your handling time. If you use eBay Labels, tracking is uploaded automatically. You can use your On hold funds to purchase shipping labels on eBay.

OP1 year agoI understand that, but it wasn't until 2025 that it affected my account after 22 years. There was no need for the change, the previous policies protected buyers and sellers just the same. Now it just makes it even harder to be a seller on eBay waiting sometimes a week or two longer for payment than before, and if USPS loses your package... I've now waited months in some cases. This should not be the case, and with how much eBay charges in fees, they should treat their sellers better... common sense... and pure greed on their part (they make money on your money holding it... common banking practice).
