If you use your own postage (like a stamped envelope) you will have no tracking.

You'll be relying on the seller to refund you when the item arrives, without eBay making sure it happens.

If you trust your seller, you could mail it (right away at least 7 days before the time expires) and ask the seller to refund you when it arrives.

Personally, I would use the eBay shipping label. You will get your refund when it is returned using tracking.
