How do I issue a credit for a the return of a defective item.
Looks like I sent an item that was defective. My first ever.
I issued the credit. I instructed the buyer to return it by taking it to the shipper of their choice and send it back and tell me how much the shipping cost.
They have informed me the shipping was $6.33 but since the transaction's initial purchase has received the all credits I cannot see where to credit the return label (obviously since it was purchased outside of eBay).
Is there still a way I can issue him the a credit of some sort eBay?
Thanks,
Don

If you both have PayPal accounts, you can ask the buyer for his PayPal email address and then send him a invoice from there.
For next time, ask the buyer to open a return for an item that is not as described. When you accept the return, eBay sends the buyer a return shipping label automatically and charges you when it's used. Since a buyer has no incentive or obligation to return an item once he's received a refund, you should wait until you get the item back before refunding.

OP2 years agoFortunately, I was able to send the refund via PayPal as you suggested. In the future if the need should arise, I will follow your guidelines for other returns.
This is extremely helpful. Thank you so much.
