How do I dispute an increase in shipping charge?
Summary: suebee88 expressed frustration over eBay increasing a paid shipping charge by $7 due to alleged dimensional changes by FedEx, which they disputed. They explained that their package was flat, contradicting FedEx's claim of a thickness increase. mudshark61369 suggested taking the issue up with FedEx using the receipt, while profitweb advised contacting eBay for a potential refund, sharing personal experience with similar issues involving packaging standards. Suggestions included reviewing dimensions with FedEx and contacting eBay through their Help & Support to speak with a customer service agent.
eBay is trying to increase my already paid shipping charge by $7.00, after the transaction is complete. They’re claiming FedEx is changing the billable weight from 2.44lb to 14lbs. FedEx added 3 inches to the dimensions to a flat, 1-inch package. I used a flattened cardboard box to ship the item. I took the package directly to FedEx. I have the receipt. They accepted the package as is.
How can I successfully dispute this charge? This is the first time this has ever happened to me.

I've had eBay, as a courtesy, refund these charges once.
However, be aware the reason provided may not be accurate. I think the FedEx or eBay system may be limited on the reason codes they can submit to us.
I thought mine was a weight/dimension issue... only to find out it was the tight poly cover we put on the outside of boxes causing it. It didn't meet their packaging standards.
I am not saying this is your issue, but FedEx has a ton of requirements. If anything is off, they charge (with little info on what the infraction was).
I would suggest you contact FedEx, with the tracking info, to find out what the exact issue was (you may have already). Then, contact eBay CS to try to get a one-time reversal. To get ahold of them, start with Help & Support... make selections (Seller >> Shipping) until you get to page with Chat option on the LEFT side of the page. Type "AGENT" into chat to get a live CS agent.
Good luck!! I hope you figure it out so it doesn't happen again. It's very annoying (and costly).

Did you use the dimensions of the flattened box before it was flattened to calculate your shipping cost? Depending on the depth of a box it can throw the length and width way off. Was your buyer asked to pay more for the delivery, or did you get a bill from FedEx?
Did the Fedex clerk measure the box at the store or just weigh it and slap label on it? You would have to take your receipt back to the store along with the billing increase and take it up with the manager.

OP1 month agoDimensions were exact. I measured it 3 times. In the request for money from eBay, they claim the thickness was 4 inches. There is NO WAY it was 4 inches. Even the delivery photo shows it was flat!

OP1 month agoBuyer paid for free shipping. The cost was all mine.
The delivery clerk only affixed “This Way Up” labels on the package. He did not measure the box.
I don’t know how to dispute the charge directly with FedEx, when I bought the label through eBay.

You're right... only eBay can refund the charge to you. Please see my response on how you can contact eBay to try to get one.
