How do I dispute a UPS shipping adjustment. I sent a golf driver and UPS is saying it weighed 40 lbs
I sent a golf driver to a buyer in the US. UPS is saying it weighed 40 lbs and they charged me an ADDITIONAL $42.63 on top of the original shipping cost of $21.34 which is already ridiculous. The box weighed 5 lbs. How can I dispute this? EBay's automated assistant is totally worthless.

Mentor4 months agoHi @magin87 Irrespective of why you were charged so much, contact UPS to dispute it. eBay prints labels, not set shipping costs. The carriers are sometimes seemingly merciless, but you don't know if you don't try. It seems a high price to pay for making an error in the preparation of a shipping label and they may cut you some slack. Good luck!

I agree with the earlier replies that you're likely being charged by Dimensional Weight. What the carrier does is measure the size of the box (its dimensions) then look up on a chart what a box that size usually weighs. Then, they charge you for which one is higher, the scale weight or the dimensional weight. Whoever dreamed up this scheme was a genius from the carrier's viewpoint, but from the seller's, not so much.

Mentor4 months agoWhat was the dimensions of the package you sent?
Sounds like maybe you are being charged for dimensional weight possibly.

Mentor4 months agoWhen you create the shipping label, you need to select the oversize or irregular package selection. This is important because it triggers the correct amount to be charged to you. (do this when you create the listing and when you ship)
UPS is bumping it to 40 pounds as a surcharge for missing the irregular package. They are not saying it actually weighs that much. It's the way they charge for the mistakes you made when shipping the item.

OP4 months agoGreat, I will be sure to do that in the future. I haven't had an issue before this one, but I don't really sell a lot. Thank you for the help!
