How do I disable "curated finds"??
Summary: reziac expressed frustration with the "curated finds" feature on eBay, stating it prevents effective browsing by repeatedly showing items they have already purchased or don't want to see again. They mentioned the issue occurs primarily on store pages for computer parts. eburtonlab suggested using a different browser or ad blocker to manage the display but reziac reported challenges in implementing these solutions. The discussion centered on overcoming this browsing barrier through technical adjustments, but reziac emphasized the need for platforms like eBay and Amazon to reconsider such "helpful" features that hinder rather than enhance the shopping experience.
"Curated finds" is actively PREVENTING me from browsing for other items. I don't need page after page of the SAME THING I JUST BOUGHT, or page after page of something I'm done looking for. "Curated finds" makes some stores completely unusable as I cannot browse past the endless pages of the VERY SAME "curated finds" that I never want to see again. Several times I just gave up and went to Amazon.
I want the option to turn it off. It's a horrible anti-feature that does nothing but make it impossible to browse for anything else.

What page are you looking at when you see "curated finds"?
reziac
OP1 week agoPretty much any "store" page for computer parts. Also, sometimes it's ALL the suggestions below whatever I'm looking at.
Example: I bought a CPU. I then wanted to cruise a store looking for other components, but as I was open to several items, I was not searching by item name. They also sell CPUs. I gave up after about a dozen pages of NOTHING but CPUs.

Mentor1 week agoAre you using the eBay app? Try using a browser instead.
If you are using the eBay app, you do not have much control over how things are presented to you by eBay. If you use a mobile browser, things may be different, though you still may not have much control.
If you use a desktop browser you have more control -- you can use an ad blocker and create custom rules to block page elements you do not want to see.

OP1 week agoDesktop only, Chrome, I tried "block element" with UBlock but it just blocks the whole page. And it's not just "curated finds" -- once it starts it's the entire store.
Here is an example. I looked at what is now the first item on this page, a matched pair of CPUs (I have no idea how it will appear to you):
https://www.ebay.com/str/olddays168/Computer-Components-Parts/_i.html?_sacat=175673&_trksid=p4429486.m3561.l170197
After that, it takes six pages to get past nothing-but-CPUs. So there is no browsing the category unless I already know what I want. Or have all day to do it.
This is a recent problem.

Mentor1 week agoMost ad blockers have a point and click interface to allow you to highlight a specific page element to block just that feature. It may take some trial and error to get it right so there is no "collateral damage".
Playing around a bit I was able to find a store that showed a curated selection of things that I had previously viewed. Using uBlock Origin I was able to create a custom rule that seemed to work for me to block that section. See if adding this rule to your uBlock custom rules works for you:

OP1 week agoUBlock won't accept the rule. Permanent won't take it and temporary deletes it instead of saving it. I don't know what the problem is; normally I just use its defaults.
Here is the base issue: sites like eBay need to stop being "helpful" like this. It sounds clever but it actively interferes with my ability to buy stuff. Amazon has the same problem -- if I buy a dishrag, I get offered 500 dishrags, but at least they don't totally take over so I can't look at anything else.

Mentor1 week agoIf you cannot get your ad blocker to block the feature, try using the "seller's other items" link from the seller's feedback page to bypass the store page with the curated items.
