How do I delay shippint an item at buyers request?
A buyer has asked me to delay shipment of a purchase until they return from a vacation. How do I do this?

You cannot do that without getting a late shipment defect on your account. Let the Buyer know that eBay requires that you ship on time accordingly to the handling time in that listing and ask if they want to cancel. If they don't respond, go ahead and ship on time.

Actually, you don't without risking getting a late shipping defect on your account because you did not have tracking uploaded and validated by the carrier within your Handling time, meaning they did not scan the shipping label's tracking number into their system.
Message the customer and advise them to message you back requesting a cancellation and they can purchase the item when they return from being away. You can cancel using the reason "Buyer requested ..." without penalty to either account.
They could have gone to the Post Office and filled out a form to HOLD their mail until they return.
