How do I cancel orders?
I bid on two items last night. I was outbid on both items and this morning I received emails I won both because if bid cancellations/retractions. I messaged the seller I would not be purchasing because I bought something else. What if they don’t respond?

Actually, on August 28th eBay rolled out a new Cancellation policy. If you message the Seller asking to Cancel the Auctions (and you have to send the message on BOTH auctions, NOT just one) then they have 3 days to cancel for you, otherwise eBay will automatically cancel them for you.
If however the Seller marks the items shipped before you message and ask them to cancel then you will have to pay for the items in 4 days, otherwise the Seller can cancel them on day 5 and give your account an unpaid item strike for both Auctions which means you will have 2 and have trouble buying or bidding on eBay for up to 12 months.

·2 years agoThe way I read it is you still have to use the "Cancel order" link (rather than through the messaging system; imagine the problems that could arise if eBay would use AI to parse messages to interpret that the buyer is requesting a cancellation) in My eBay: Purchase History to invoke the process (which is not new, the only change I can see is that the deadline for it has changed to before the item is marked as shipped from the old one of 1 hour or marked as shipped whichever is earlier). Yes, I read the policy and we discussed it in the monthly meeting. eBay does look at a Buyer's message asking for a cancellation, that's why I was specific to the OP messaging asking for a Cancellation on both of their transactions. eBay will then automatically cancel them in 3 days for the Buyer if the seller does not do it on their end. The Buyer's message also eliminates the 4 day period for a Seller to then cancel using the reason Buyer hasn't paid so Buyers are further protected against receiving UPI strikes as long as they message a Seller asking for a cancellation. This point was confirmed in the meeting too by an eBay Team member although it is not spelled out in the announcement.
AI's role may initially be to flag and present messages from Buyers to Sellers that contain the word "cancel". That would make sense. AI may or may not be set up to interpret phrases that "may" imply the Buyer does not want the item and wants to cancel ... I am sure we will read about those situations here moving forward.
