How did a seller get my phone number?

Question

I called ebay and they had no idea but was sure it would not happen again. My thought, if it happened once it will happen again. I read the replies in the search for this forum but not sure mine is the same. I asked one question about a car the seller had listed, I did not bid. I have not purchased anything from the seller and he has not purchased anything from me. My name is not in my username, I googled my username and nothing shows up.

I don't see anywhere in the listing that it is a classified ad. It was an auction and I messaged him through Contact Seller in the listing and his contact information was not there. However, his contact information is in the description numerous times which I didn't think was allowed. The car didn't sell and is relisted, item number 198039644125, if you could take a look and see if you can find classified ad anywhere.

Was the listing for the car a classified ad? If so there are different rules for these listings. The purchase is not made on eBay and the buyer and seller negotiate directly. They are the same as placing a classified ad in a newspaper.

When you contact a seller you will see their contact number and your contact information is sent to the seller.

To see is something is listed as a classified ad you will see classified ad under the price on the search results page and will see a message about it under the price on the listing as well.
