How can you possibly think feedback is fair as sellers can't be honest in their feedback?
Because of one unfair negative - from a buyer who should not have been able to bid as her country is on the list that I don't sell to - my rating gets worse each month - now down to 98.1 - buyers aren't leaving much feedback so negatively affects my unwarranted feedback. Most feedback left for others is Ai generated so that seems silly to me as I would only ever leave my own feedback & since I am not allowed to be honest in my assessments of buyers -I don't leave much feedback. Everything on ebay seems to be getting more false and totally not transparent. While I realize ebay's only concern is the bottom line, it is still frustrating.
Why insure things when they are too lazy to file? Then the onus is unfairly on me. I really don't expect anyone to do anything about this but I refuse to go away quietly!

< my rating gets worse each month >
This is because the feedback percentage is calculated as (positive) / (positive + negative). The positive feedbacks remain in the calculation for one year and the negative feedbacks remain in the calculation for one year.
So, as a positive feedback ages past its one year anniversary, it drops out. Due to the mathematics of (p)/(p+n) the result is a smaller quotient. Thus, the percentage goes down. The good news is, after the negative gets older than a year, it also will drop out of the calculation and the percentage goes back to 100%, assuming no new negs were added in the meantime.
Examples:
Assume 16 positive and 3 negative (16) / (16+3) = 16/19 = 84.2%
A positive ages off after a year (15) / (15+3) = 15/18 = 83.3%
One more positive ages off (14) / (14+3) = 14/17 = 82.4%
Another positive ages off (13) / (13+3) = 13/16 = 81.2%
The negative ages off (13) / (13+0) = 13/13 = 100%

OP1 year agoAlso, since you have only been a buyer and not a seller, I am disregarding your thoughts on leaving feedback.
In full disclosure, I also wonder if you work for ebay. However, I thank you for the input.

·1 year agoNone of the Mentors here (the only people who can reply to your post in this section of the forum) work for eBay. In addition, many of us use Posting IDs or only use our buying IDs to prevent a disgruntled poster from messing up our selling accounts. You were given good info; there's no need to attack those who are trying to help you.
newdumbrules
OP1 year agoWhy assume it was an attack! There was not a reply that directly addressed the problem, I was curious about this forum and my curiosity was confirmed to my satisfaction. Thanks to all of you and especially to the person who left the cliche type quote.
Once again, thank you sincerely!

Mentor1 year agoI agree with you but as a seller, there is nothing I can do about eBay's punitive feedback system.
If I could address the issue, believe me, I would. eBay does what eBay wants and nothing we can say can change that.
Let me be clear.
1. Feedback is not equitable.
2. eBay does not care what we think

I think this was in response to @mudshark61369 instead of me. Let me enlighten you about something. Members can have more than one account. Some members have an account for buying and a separate account for selling. So your gotcha about not being a seller is, in a word, all wet. It's simply impossible to determine what the responders do on their other accounts.
< I also wonder if you work for ebay >
I can help with this too. No responder on this board works for eBay. We are volunteers. It says that on the home page of this forum, right next to the "Start a conversation" button you clicked.

OP1 year agoWhatever, I am now bored with this whole conversation. Ebay wins, good for you, have a nice day, you are correct about everything. Thank you for your response.

Mentor1 year agoThat would be a slight exaggeration, but thanks for the vote of confidence.

OP1 year agoNow you have really enforced my thoughts on this so called forum. Misconstrue all you need to!

Mentor1 year agoI misconstrued nothing. You can use sarcasm but you can't recognize it when it's turned around on you? Oh well. Have a good day.

·1 year agoFeedback in any situation can be problematic, as it seems that some people just can’t be counted on to act in a correct manner. I was telling a friend about a “negative†feedback I received as an Uber driver. It more felt like someone just couldn’t stand that I was 100% positive and had to do something to bring down my rating, no matter what they have to say. It’s like the little boy that just can’t resist popping another child’s balloon. The reason they gave for the bad feedback . . . “Poor road conditionsâ€. Excuse me, I don’t work for DOT.
If we want to keep doing what we’re doing, we have to accept that every once in a while we’re going to run into an entitled jerk that just isn’t happy unless they ruin someone else’s day.

Mentor1 year ago@newdumbrules,
You are being beat up because of the one negative. However, out of 26 sales you have made in the last six months you have only left feedback for 6. Swallow your pride and start leaving feedback for your buyers. Yes they can only receive positives, but many will not leave it if they do not receive one first, and lets face it possibly getting more positive feedback can help mitigate the one negative.
If you run into a problem buyer after leaving them feedback you can always add another comment to the one you originally left and that can be a negative comment. You can reply to a negative but you should do that by making yourself look good not by dissing the buyer.
When you insure a package YOU are the one who has to file a claim with the shipper. You do not make the buyer wait until that has been done before issuing a refund.
newdumbrules
OP1 year agoI realize all that, however, the feedback was not fair to begin with - the mistake was ebays- why list countries you do not ship to if it means nothing, she demanded money rather than file a claim with insurance. The damage was staged because she had asked if I would sell two instead of the lot. So - she wanted 35
dollars back so she would only have ten dollars in them - really she demanded- that is extortion. On top of
all that I listed them at my cost!
newdumbrules
OP1 year agoThe package was in Ukraine - was I supposed to go there, get the package, bring it back so I could then file a claim? In the 28 years I have shipped, I have always had to have the damaged item to file a claim.

Mentor1 year agoI don't think feedback is fair or equitable. You won't get any arguments from me but getting eBay to go along with a different approach may be difficult.
I don't care about leaving negatives for buyers but I concerned about feedback ratings that go down when the overall amount of feedback left by buyers has decreased over the years. 1 negative, as you have, really lowers your ratings despite many more successful transactions.
I also disagree with eBay's push to blur feedback and product reviews.
My personal opinion is that eBay should do away with feedback altogether.
