How are Sellers & eBay handling drop off packages with NEW 2026 USPS scanning changes?
I am an eBay Seller who recently dropped off packages at my local Post Office. None of the packages received an "Acceptance" scan. I learned that the Postal Service has changed their scanning policy and no longer will scan packages at the local office. The first scan will show when the package reaches a facility with an automatic scanning machine. How are Sellers protecting proof of drop-off? How is eBay handling timeliness of shipments? Should I now be taking pictures of my shipment when I drop off a package?

The change is for machine postmarking standard letter mail like bills, tax returns, voting ballots, ESE etc. - not acceptance scans for packages.
My local PO is hit or miss on package acceptance scans, so I either scan it at the self-service kiosk in the lobby, or get it scanned at the counter by the mail clerk.

OP9 months agoI hope that's the case. I dropped off several packages at two different times yesterday and they still aren't showing up on USPS tracking.

My local PO was great with initial acceptance scans until the holidays, then I guess they got swamped and I wasn't getting any scans until they hit the first hub or even later. That's why I make sure to get the kiosk scan or the counter scan.
Also extended my handling time so I was covered there.

Mentor9 months ago@charmaigns_on_9th - to clarify, the SSK scan is not a true acceptance scan, and the screen will say that before you scan. USPS still has to scan it in somewhere to show they actually received it. That's why having the clerk scan it is the best option.
But...your tracking# will be in their system and it will show "USPS electronic receipt of item for mailing".
