help with refund after closed case from a scam
Bought what was listed as a brand new ipad from seller for $300, which is a nearly $100 discount for that model goes for at(Best Buy and Amazon has for $399) After buying, a few days later I got a message that package had arrived via FEDEX, looked outside my door but no package. Looked a Fedex tracking number and a photo came up of a package sitting at a door that wasn’t mine. called FEDEX and they said that tracking number provided by seller, was not correct and couldn’t find any info about lost package. Created a ticket through eBay about item being sent to wrong address, then a message came from seller about being aware of wrong address issue and telling me that a new ipad was being resent to me. eBay countered saying you can either get a full refund from us or accept the new details from seller. Although now increasly worried that wrong address was a possible scam, I still wanted the ipad so I said I’d still
accept the new ipad and cancelled the complaint ticket. Unfortunately, the seller has still not responded and now eBay is saying I’m unable to get refund because i closed the complaint(eBay said that I need to contact seller for refund). From reading other, buyers notes from this seller, the same thing happened to them and numerous people said it was a scam. What can I do to get my money back? Can’t get in touch with a live agent from Ebay(or seller) to help me out

OP5 months agoOh no, don’t like hearing that. I will definitely let you know, they did give me a service request number which makes me feel slightly hopeful that Ebay will honor the refund. Send you a message in few days.

Mentor5 months ago@champbuyshpi3 That sounds VERY frustrating. Since you closed the case your ONLY option is going to be a fraud chargeback with your funding source. A case can NOT be reopened.
Get the delivery photo and information from Fed Ex such as package weight, dimensions, ask if your name and address were on the label or not.
Tell your payment method that you are the victim of a False Tracking Scam

OP5 months agoMuch appreciated, I should have gone with my instincts. I’m going to go to my credit card company and see if they’ll assist me, but I think it may be a hard lesson learned scenario.

Mentor5 months agoJust be sure to gather your evidence of the fraud. The credit card company should help you if you can show it was a false tracking scam.

OP5 months ago“Comics-sci-fi”, Thanks for your help 🙏. Finally got in touch with a live Ebay agent, they were able to prove(through past messages) that seller HAD deceived me in order to close my complaint case. In hindsight, their message was probably some sort of fake or Bot response. EBay agreed that it wasn’t my fault and is going to issue me a full refund within 48-72 hr time period. Lesson to be learned, If something seems “too good to be true”, you should listen to your senses.

Mentor5 months ago@champbuyshpi3. Please let me know if the promised refund comes through. Sorry to say but agents often say what a member wants to hear so they will get a good rating.

OP5 months agoJust wanted to let you know my refund went through. But On Saturday, I posted a negative review about seller, only to find out that either eBay or seller removed post. Didn’t think there was anything that violated their policy, was just a few pics and the post warning about the scam. Ridiculous, how can they protect the scammers over the individual's who got duped. Thx for your help

Mentor5 months ago@champbuyshpi3. So glad that the refund went through. Since it was not seller approved refund the feedback shouldn't have been removed.
The seller didn't remove it, the automated system did.
I will report this as it's very concerning for all buyers.
