Help with an insured item that arrived to buyer damaged
I purchased additional shipping insurance coverage on an item that I sold. The package arrived to the buyer damaged. How do I use the extra insurance I purchased to make sure the buyer gets money back for the damage?

It is your responsibility to refund the buyer, then file the claim with the carrier. The insurance protects you. If you do not refund voluntarily, eBay will refund from your funds and will not refund your fees, plus give you a defect for an unresolved case.
Ask your buyer for photos of the item and the package. You will need them for the claim. Ask the buyer to hold both for possible inspection by the carrier.
Ask the buyer to open a not as described return. If you do not want the item returned, use the ‘refund buyer now’ option.
If you do want the item returned, ask the buyer to print the return label but hold the item until you hear about your claim. Once printed, use the refund buyer now option to refund the buyer. Then let the buyer know when the claim has been settled so they can send the item back to you.
