help with an Ebay decision
Hi...so I have a situation that happened and need some advice. I sold a product ($299) on 6/17..I packaged and dropped off at PO 6/18..provided tracking info that day. I live in Ohio she lives in Tx. the package never arrived..last tracking info 6/23. I requested a missing mail on 7/24...I've been in contact with buyer and she kept asking me for a refund...I kept telling her to file a claim with PO. She instead filed a complaint w/ebay. I gave them my side of story along with all the tracking info.. I just got their response..and they sided with her...I've filed an appeal. So I have to refund that $299. The kicker is the buyer is now going to get my money..she can also file a claim with PO and then will refund her money since they lost her package and IF the PO does find her missing mail...she may..just may get the product..win/win/win for her. Any advice, help or suggestions?

No, the person who mails the package is the one who files an insurance claim at the post office. This USPS article will probably help you to do that: https://www.usps.com/help/claims.htm

It is always up to the seller to file an insurance claim … NOT the buyer … so file your claim NOW.
Your buyer was following the correct procedure in filing a claim with eBay … and you should have refunded them before eBay could get involved. Please drop your appeal.
What I normally would recommend is that you stay on good terms with the buyer so that they willingly repay you … or return the item (at your expense) … should the item ever arrive. But you have been acting like an adversary to the buyer ever since the package was delayed … that it may take a HUGE apology from you for the buyer to want to do the right thing if the package does arrive. I would let the buyer know you finally realized that you handled the situation all wrong.
I’m very sorry this happened. I would not take further advice from whoever advised you in handling this situation so far.
